Zoom on: ‘artists in residence’ initiatives

The program of the year 2008/2009 took place in italy, in the Aosta Valley, at the station of Breuil. It has been the object of a photo exhibition in 2010 at the ‘Citadella dei giovani’ (citadel of the young). The station harboured young Italian artists (more information here)

The program of artists in residence is a way to meet other young people, discover other methodes and techniques, to experience the life in colocation with other artists. It is also the occasion to find oneself in a regenerative space , at the air far away from habits and customs. It is a time of reflexion, of research but also of production. This concept is not new: a few exhibition have already been realised, for example at the Rocky Mountain National Park in the United States. To welcome artists in mountains is also a way to rethink our way to conceive the tourism, since the place of living becomes a pretext to encourage towards creativity.

The program of 2008/2009 is interesting, because it underlines the importance of the mountains and their significance, notably by putting forward the importance to make the young generations participate in the debate over the mountains which is seen as a space that is a ‘serious matter for our contemporary world’, much as the natural point of view as the social and cultural.

You can follow them on the blog of the Mountain Festival and see a selection of photography’s of the program which will have place at the ‘station de Breuil’ (Breuil station) in the category ‘youth’  of the Mountain Photo Festival 2010.
